Our Story
Drop In is a family owned and operated surf and coffee shop in the far north of Aotearoa.
The lives of Adam, Kelly, Lennox and Juno are led by the tides. Through Kellys intimate and lengthy relationship with the ocean and surf industry, paired with Adam’s love of surf, coffee and people, Drop In was born. It came into the world surrounded by the many loving hands of the community and hasn’t looked back since.
Water is Drop In’s biggest stakeholder, and we are constantly asking ourselves - how does this product or process impact the health and well being of the water? Could we do it better?
For this reason, we choose to focus our products into two streams - 100% natural fibres (compostable) or 100% synthetic (more easily recyclable). On the coffee side (a simpler product loop), the coffee is organic, the milk is local and delivered in glass bottles, and we don’t do single use cups.
We hope this helps to foster a change of pace. Going slower gives you the time to run your hand over the lines of local shapers, check out some beautifully made wares, a serendipitous encounter, a quick ride on the half pipe or just a few breaths of fresh air in the sun. A space for local and traveller ocean people alike, you never know who you may encounter on your stop at this small shop in Kaitaia.
Our investment in the future of surfing - primarily for the wāhine and rangatahi - we run small wāhine surf trips (maximum 6 guests), a local wāhine surf group that gathers once a month, and contribute our time to the Ahipara Boardriders and their awesome initiatives.
Alongside Drop In, we also have The Huts - An eco bed and Breakfast in Ahipara, and Kelly accompanies businesses and organisations on their journey to be better.
